What Can You Expect At The Greensburg Church Of Christ?
Devout And Simple Worship
You can expect to find a group of Christians assembled to worship God "in spirit and in truth" (John 4:24). This worship consists of studying the Bible (2 Timothy 2:15), praying (1 Timothy 2:8), a cappella singing from the heart (Ephesians 5:19), serving the Lord's Supper every Sunday (Acts 20:7), and giving "as prospered" (1 Corinthians 16:1-2.0
A Plea For Unity You can expect to hear a Gospel Preacher pleading for all who would follow Christ to return to the original pattern of Christianity as revealed in the Bible. Since the Word of God is the seed of the kingdom (Luke 8:11), when it is planted in the hearts of men it will produce the same fruit today as it did in the first century.
We earnestly plead for the unity of all believers on the scriptural platform of no creed but the Bible, no name but Christ's, no organization but the church, and no worship but that authorized by God's Word. This is the only real answer to Christian unity and fellowship in Christ (Ephesians 4:4-6).
Respect For The Bible
You can expect this church to respect the Bible as the fully inspired Word of God (2 Peter 1:21). Since the Word of God is the all sufficient rule of faith and practice, you can expect this church to reject all human creeds and man-made bindings (Galatians 1:8-9).
What's Our Name?
To the Christians in Rome Paul wrote, "Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ send greetings" (Romans 16:16 NIV). Other names are also ascribed to the Lord's church. In 1 Corinthians it is called "the church of God" (1:2). Paul also called it "the church of the Lord" (Acts 20:28). Sometimes it was simply called the church. This shows us that Christ did not appoint a single, exclusive name for his church. Since in heaven's plan there is only one church, there was no need for a specific name to distinguish it from other religious bodies. In a world of over 2,000 denominations, all claiming to be Christ's church, we identify ourselves as Churches of Christ. We do so because it is clearly a biblical name that God approves of. It tells the world to whom we belong. It gives the glory to our founder and savior. While not the only name that a body of Christians can scripturally use, it is a highly appropriate name.
What Kind Of Message Will I Hear?
(Matthew 7:28-29) "When Jesus had finished saying these things, The crowds were amazed at his teachings, because he taught as one of authority, and not as their teachers of the law."). Paul's preaching was with "power and love and discipline" (2 Timothy 1:7). While his speech and "preaching were not in persuasive words of human wisdom," there was a "demonstration of the Spirit and of power" (1 Corinthians 2:3-4). So powerful was the preaching of the apostles that the foundations of Judaism were shaken (Acts 4:16-18). Gentiles protested that they had "turned the world upside down" (Acts 17:6). May we and all who would speak for Christ, "Preach the word" (2 Timothy 4:2). May every eldership insist that those who occupy the pulpit of their congregation be "men of the Book" who are not ashamed of the gospel (Romans 1:16). And who preach the "whole counsel of God" (Acts 20:27). When God's word is exalted, Christ is glorified, souls are saved, the church is edified and increased.
How Is This Church Different?
Our goal is to always speak where the Bible speaks and to be silent where the Bible is silent. We have no authority to teach anything as gospel, that is not based on God's Word.
Finally - Who Are These People?
Since Jesus said "upon this rock I will build my church (Matthew 16:18), this church belongs to Him. It is literally blood bought and built by Jesus Christ. This body of believers encourage all to accept the grace of God and to willingly obey the Lord's commands in order to become a Christian and a member of His church. God's simple plan of salvation will lead you to eternity in heaven: Believe - John 8:24 Repent - Acts 17:30 Confess Christ - Romans 10:9-10 Be Baptized - Acts 2:38 Live Dedicated Lifes - 1 John 1:7
